Description: Primary Job Purpose: Fills-in vacant operational shifts, operates some scheduled shifts and works maintenance shifts. Operates and monitors plant equipment and performs water analysis test to ensure appropriate quality and quantity of water to the customer. Performs mechanical maintenance and repair tasks to ensure all equipment is operational. Must maintain accurate, up-to-date records for the proper care of the plant.

Working Conditions : 1.Work involves exposure to dirt, dust, grease, hazardous chemicals, mechanical and electrical equipment, and possible exposure to hazardous fumes and gases. May also be subject to electrical shock, chemical burns, and moving parts. 2.Lifting and carrying pumps and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds (and occasionally to 100 lbs.). Climbing stairs, tanks and catwalks to load and mix chemicals and to monitor, operate, and repair equipment. Housekeeping duties may include mopping, bending, and moving equipment and supplies. 3.Manual dexterity and hand steadiness is required to analyze water samples, mix chemicals in beakers and test tubes, keyboard data into computers, and repair equipment. Vision is used 100% of the time, including color and depth perception. Hearing is used to detect alarm systems. 4.This position involves shift work including nights, evenings, 3 weekends a month, and holidays. Employee is on call in the event of an emergency or illness.

Qualifications: 1.Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 2.Must possess a valid Driver's License. 3.Must be able to obtain a class “WT3” Certification within three (3) years. 4.General knowledge of maintenance and repair, including preventive maintenance. 5.Knowledge of water quality standards, testing requirements, and chemical treatment procedures. 6.Thorough knowledge of the safe and proper operation of mechanical and electrical equipment. 7.Thorough knowledge of laboratory chemicals, equipment, and procedures. 8.Knowledge of chemical feed equipment, pumps, valves, wells, compressors, diesel engines and piping. 9.Ability to follow oral and written instructions with little to no supervision. 10.Ability to interact and communicate with co-workers to create teamwork. 11.Must be able to differentiate colors for accurate laboratory results. 12.Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment. 13.Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of heavy and light duty machinery including front-end loader, tractor, forklift, gasoline powered equipment, and miscellaneous mechanical and electrical tools. 14. Must receive a series of Hepatitis B inoculations, at the Town’s expense, or sign a waiver.
